When you are a family member or friend of someone in grief after a baby dies, you may be wondering, “What do I say?" or “What can I do?” Perhaps you also feel this loss deeply and don’t know how to care for your own sadness and pain. Helping someone who is experiencing pregnancy or infant loss can be confusing and propels us to be in a place of care we often feel ill-equipped for. We want you to know that helping in grief is a common challenge. But despite the challenge, you are a huge source of support for your loved one.

Explore how you, as a friend or family member, can help support someone who has experienced pregnancy or infant loss, is pregnant after loss or parenting after loss.

We offer 3-month sessions on Zoom the 2nd Monday of the month during the lunch hour, from 12pm–1pm. Jessica Dewes (LCMHC PMH-C with The Parent Child Center of NCSS) and Chelsea Levis (Empty Arms Vermont) will host this discussion group from the perspective of bereaved parents.

Each month focuses on a different topic of discussion: (1) Good practices for communication with our loved ones, (2) Caring for yourself in grief, (3) Developing a plan for long-term presence

  • Fall Session 2023: September 11, October 9, November 13

  • Winter Session 2024: February 12, March 22 April TBD

*Please note this is not a professional training, rather an informal discussion for family and friends to better directly support a loved one going through loss.
